Lin Wei
Lin Wei Sigurgeirsson (violin) was born in Guangzhou in 1964. She grew up in Beijing, where her parents were both professors at the Central Conservatory of Music. She began studying the violin with her father, Professor Lin Yao-Ji, at the age of seven, and the piano with her mother, Professor Hu Shi-Xi at the age of eight. She commenced her formal music training at the Central Conservatory of Music in Beijing in 1980 where she continued studying the violin with Lin Yao-Ji. In 1985 she received a scholarship from the city of London to study with Professor Yfrah Neaman at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London under the solo advanced study course, where she completed her studies in 1988. Lin Wei has been a member of the Iceland Symphony Orchestra since 1988. During extended leaves of absence from the Iceland Symphony she has served as concert master of the Hong Kong Pan Asia Symphony Orchestra and played with The Baltimore Symphony and The Washington Chamber Symphony Orchestra in Washington DC. She has appeared as a soloist and chamber musician with the Iceland Symphony orchestra and various ensembles in Europe, the United States and Asia. Lin Wei is the founder and Chairman of the Lin Yao Ji Music Foundation of China, a nonprofit organization registered in Hong Kong (LYJMFC) and Harpa International Music Academy in Iceland. In this capacity she has organized master classes and concerts at the National Center for Performing Art Beijing, Culture Center in Hong Kong and Harpa Reykjavik Concert Hall and Conference Center with internationally renowned musicians and rising young stars as the artistic director of Harpa International Music Academy. As the Chairman of LYJMFC, she also collaborated with the Menuhin International Violin Competition Beijing 2012 and China International Violin Competition.
Lin Wei Sigurgeirsson er fædd í Guangzhou í Kína árið 1964. Hún hóf fiðlunám hjá föður sínum, prófessor Lin Yao Ji, sjö ára að aldri og lærði á píanó hjá móður sinni, prófessor Hu Shi Xi. Hún hóf nám árið 1980 við tónlistarháskólann í Beijing, einnig hjá föður sínum, og brautskráðist þaðan árið 1985. Þá hlaut hún styrk til framhaldsnáms frá Lundúnaborg við einleikaradeild Guildhall School of Music & Drama hjá prófessor Yfrah Neaman og brautskráðist þaðan 1988. Lín Wei hefur verið meðlimur Sinfóníuhljómsveitar Íslands frá árinu 1988. Veturinn 1996-1997 var hún konsertmeistari Pan Asian Symphony Orchestra í Hong Kong og lék með Baltimore Symphony og Washington Chamber Symphony í Washington D.C. á árunum 2000-2002. Lín Wei hefur kennt við Purcell School of Music í London, Tónlistarskólann í Reykjavík og Yip Academy í Hong Kong. Hún hefur komið fram sem einleikari með Sinfóníuhljómsveit Íslands, komið fram á einleikstónleikum og leikið með ýmsum kammerhópum hér á landi, í Evrópu, Bandaríkjunum og Asíu. Lin Wei er stofnandi og formaður Lin Yao Ji Music Foundation of China, minningarstofnun um föður hennar til heimilis í Hong Kong. Í krafti starfa sinna hefur hún skipulagt masterklassa og tónleika í Beijing, Hong Kong og á Íslandi þar sem fram hafa komið alþjóðlegir listamenn og ungir einleikarar sem náð hafa að skara fram úr á tónlistarsviðinu og unnið til verðlauna. Lin Wei er stofnandi og listrænn stjórnandi Alþjóðlegu tónlistarakademíunnar í Hörpu.
