Lena Kildahl
Principal Flutist of the Aarhus Symphony Orchestra and Associate Professor at the Royal Academy of Music, Aarhus.
Lena Kildahl joined the Aarhus Symphony Orchestra in 1994. In 1996 she received outstanding reviews for her Debut from the Royal Danish Academy of Music in Copenhagen. Lena Kildahl has received several awards: Harby Fondet, Anne Marie Mortensens Rejselegat, Sydbanks Musikpris and Gustav Albeck Prisen.
Loving chamber music Lena Kildahl performs in several ensembles; Woodwind Quintet, Duo da Chiesa - Flute and organ - with Christian Præstholm, with piano and strings in various constellations.
Playing Chamber Music and pieces for solo flute the repertoire is all from baroque to more modern and contemporary composers - e.g. Jolivet, Takemitsu and with a special heart for the very emotional, strong and beautiful music by Kaija Saariaho - enjoying the challenge of extended techniques and performing with electronics.
As soloist Lena Kildahl has performed several times with her beloved Aarhus Symphony Orchestra. Mozart, Bach and of course Carl Nielsen is on the repertoire but also contemporary pieces by e.g Gabriela Lena Frank. In 2017 Lena Kildahl recorded the Concertino by Danish composer Sven Eric Tarp with ASO and conductor Tobias Ringborg. In 2013 she released a solo album with music by Marin Marais, C.P.E. Bach and André Jolivet.
In 1998 Lena Kildahl started teaching at the Royal Academy of Music, Aarhus. Also many international flute students have found their way to RAMA. In 2020 Lena Kildahl founded The Rama Flute Ensemble - lead by Lena Kildahl in concerts. The ensemble has recently, June 2023, performed at the Norwegian Flute Festival, where Lena Kildahl also had a Master Class and concert.
In August 2021 Lena Kildahl was appointed Associate Professor at RAMA where she also coaches in Chamber Music.
In the concerts at "NEW MUSIC FOR STRINGS" Lena Kildahl is playing music by Kaija Saariaho. Already for the Debut in 1996 Lena Kildahl performed music by Saariaho: "Laconisme de l'aile" for solo flute.
Kaija Saariaho (2052-2023) was worldwide known and awarded for her music.
In these concerts Kaija Saariaho, who passed away June 2nd 2023, is honored by Lena Kildahl with the two pieces : "Noa Noa" for Flute and Electronics and "Mirrors" , duo for Flute and Cello with Professor Henrik Brendstrup.
