Jonathan Booker
Jonathan Booker is a composer based in Kansas City. His music explores the physical and psychological parameters of musical performance and often presents dichotomies between density and sparsity, activity and stasis, and unity and individuality. It draws on subjects such as the social and political conditions of urban life, environmentalism, and collective struggle.
Mr. Booker is pursuing a D.M.A. in composition from the University of Missouri-Kansas City where he also instructs undergraduate composition courses. Previously, he has earned degrees from the University of Houston and Seattle Pacific University. He was a fellow in Da Camera’s prestigious Young Artist Program and has fulfilled commissions for a variety of organizations, including the AURA Contemporary Ensemble, Da Camera Chamber Music and Jazz, and Houston Grand Opera's HGOco. He has presented at several music festivals, most recently the Composers Conference, the Thailand International Composition Festival, and the Bowling Green University Graduate Conference in Music.
