Daniel McCarthy
Daniel McCarthy, an American violist and educator, appears with ensembles throughout North America and Europe. His performance interests range from chamber music collaborations with members of the Borromeo, Escher, and Miró quartets, to contemporary performance as a frequent collaborator of the Illinois Modern Ensemble and symphonic work as a violist with the Champaign-Urbana Symphony Orchestra, Millikin Decatur Symphony Orchestra, and Sinfonia da Camera. Daniel’s appearances include performances at the Master Players Festival, the American Harp Society Summer Institute, the Castleman Quartet Program, Orford Musique, the Embassy of Austria, the Residences of the American Ambassadors to Romania and Portugal, the White House, and Theresienstadt (Czech Republic). Currently, Daniel is a candidate in the Doctor of Musical Arts program at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, where he serves as a Graduate Teaching Assistant and studies under the mentorship of Elizabeth Freivogel, violist of the Jupiter String Quartet. Prior viola teachers include Lisa Ponton, Tsuna Sakamoto, Martha Strongin Katz, and Barbara Sudweeks.
